Subject Area Risk Assessment of Four Hungarian Universities with a View to the QS University Rankings by Subject

Abstract Purpose The aim of our paper is to investigate the role a mentor leading research team in overall scientific performance an academic institution and possible risks their departure with special attention publication output. Design/methodology/approach By using SciVal subject area data, we composed formula describing level vulnerability any given university case losing its mentors, identifying other risk factors by dividing careers into separate stages. Findings It turns out that higher field-weighed citation impact is, better position universities reach rankings institutions highly depends on especially view contribution topic clusters. Research limitations analysis covers output researchers working at four Hungarian universities, scope worth being extended. Practical implications Our has potential give applicable systemic approach as well data collection scheme managements so formulate inclusive comprehensive strategy involving introduction reward system aimed publications further encouraging national international cooperation. Originality/value methodology principles assessment laid down are not restricted measuring limited group institutions, they can be appropriately used for investigating mentors or every across globe.
